Province continues to undercut the solar industry

September 26, 2018

Today the province announced that it was revoking 2 regulatory amendments, set to come into effect on October 1st, that would have encouraged the growth of the solar energy in Ontario. These regulatory amendments were to allow creative ownership models for net metering projects. The amendments would have cost the province nothing; it's not clear why revoking these legislative changes would be a priority for the government.

The trend of undercutting the solar industry is now pushed into distressing territory: to date, the government's cancelling of FIT projects, the Climate Change Action Plan, and the GreenON program were explained as cost-cutting measures. While I respectfully disagree, I can understand the concern. But this latest change does not come with a cost savings; all it does is deprive Ontarians of the opportunity to install solar on their rooftops, especially those Ontarians lacking the financial resources to own their own net meter systems. These recent changes systematically prevent ordinary Ontarians from taking charge of their energy bills. Why? What's wrong with doing that?

What is the urgency in preventing Ontarians from having solar on their roofs? From managing their energy bills? From being energy producers as well as consumers?

Why is it so important to cancel these changes immediately, without any indication of what the larger energy policy will be?

If you want Ontarians to have control over their energy, to be participants in their energy future, then please contact your MPP and say:

  1. Leave the net metering amendments alone. They have no cost and only help Ontarians manage their energy bills.
  2. Leave existing energy policies in place until you have replacements.
  3. Ontarians want and deserve access to solar energy. New energy policy should enhance and promote access.
It has been a great pleasure working with you, the project has gone very smoothly. We are very pleased and we look forward to continuing our relationship with you over the next 20 years as we generate power.
I was a great relief to find Generation Solar, after having numerous unpleasant dealings with my initial installer. Their responsiveness and professionalism were top notch. They represented me in dealings with my equipment manufacturer over a warranty issue and produced results that I don't feel I could have on my own. Most importantly, they did what they said they would and kept me informed every step of the way. I would not hesitate recommending Generation Solar and look forward to a continued relationship with them.
I just wanted to let you know how pleased we are with the system you and your team installed. Things have been running great. Checking the inverter for the daily output has been part of my routine, and I enjoy counting the kW. Thanks so much for all the work, professionalism and guidance on this project. You and your team are great.
Wanted you to know that Jackson and Geordie were Amazing and very helpful, hard working in the heat. They did an Awesome job and were very tidy, a hot weather bonus is probably in order though they did say they love working for you.
