2005 2005 was a year of education. We published our innaugural spring newsletter, followed recently by the fall newsletter, and taught a broad array of courses including the Renewable Energy section of the new Fleming College Sustainable Building program in Haliburton, several solar water heating installation workshops, and an introductory course at Fleming College in Peterborough. This year's Green Expo was great, pulling in 3 times as many people as last year. JP was elected President of the Canadian Solar Industry Association and Simon was given the CanSIA Volunteer of the Year Award! Way to go!
2004 was a great year all round, with record sales and 4 grid interactive solar electric systems installed, we remain super excited about the maturation of the renewable energy industry in Canada. Also in 2004: our first renewable energy course was offered through Fleming Part Time Studies (www.flemingc.on.ca), we co-presented with a client at the Ontario Museum Association conference (sound like a strange match? It was! call us for more info), and started a great PV and hot water project at a kids summer camp in Algonquin Park -- another opportunity to help teach kids about renewable energy.
Nov '03 A nice 8 collector solar hot water system is installed at the Washland in Campbellford, providing hot water for a laundry and car wash. (We'll be writing a case study for this soon, stay tuned.)
Aug '03 The biggest blackout to ever hit eastern North America brought lots of attention to renewable energy. Generation Solar and its off-grid clients were featured in the local media and by the Canadian Press.
June '03 Roof integrated PV modules are added to the Generation Solar stable of products. Generation Solar is a certified installer of Unisolar roofing laminates.
Aug '02 Generation Solar launched wind monitoring systems and are caught in the act by CHEX TV and the Peterborough Examiner.
Jul '02 Generation Solar moved to new digs overlooking Rogers Cove on Little Lake, Peterborough. It's a beautiful spot!
Oct '01 Simon Boone received Young Entrepreneur of the Year award at the Peterborough Chamber of Commerce Awards banquet.
Generation Solar's demonstrated growth and community involvement were strong factors in the selection of Simon for the award.
Aug '01 Generation Solar was featured by CTV in a series on renewable energy which aired in August 2001.
Apr '99 Peterborough was selected by Natural Resources Canada (NRCan) as the location for a domestic solar hot water (DSHW) pilot project. The estimated worth of the project was $250,000, to be administrated in two Phases, concluding in 2001. Peterborough Green-Up administered the project, while Generation Solar installed approximately 30 DSHW systems, some with performance monitors.

Mar '99 Simon represented Generation Solar on the Canadian Trade Mission to San Francisco led by Hon. Sergio Marchi.
Dec '98 Generation Solar Renewable Energy Systems Inc. was founded, with head offices in Peterborough, Ontario. Several team members and partners were involved including The Community Opportunity and Innovation Network (COIN). Main business activities include supplying and installing solar thermal, photovoltaic (PV), and wind power systems. The Tread Lightly Company was absorbed. Special thanks to the late Cyril Carter - who kindly shared his years of experience with renewable energy technology - and his wife Jenny, for their generous support.
Jul '96 The Tread Lightly Company was founded by Simon Boone in Newcastle, Ontario. The business specialized in passive solar design.
