A client with an active horse operation saw the burgeoning solar industry in Ontario and wanted to capitalize on the opportunities to generate additional income for his farm. Our recommendation was to join the small group of trailblazers installing FIT arrays on their barn roofs.

The two barns were in great shape and adding a PV array was a natural choice for the owner but fitting all the desired solar onto the limited roof space was not easy. The owner, a qualified mechanical engineer, designed his own custom racking system with our help and the resulting array actually overhangs the roof peak on both barns. While unconventional, supported with appropriate engineering, the system maximized the potential of the limited roof space. The final system design was equipped with full weather monitoring for tracking performance against expectation and used multiple smaller string inverters to maximize serviceability and minimize down time in the event of a failure.
